Siquijor Itineraries — Day-by-Day Plans That Actually Work
Siquijor is small enough to motorbike around in a day, but rich enough to fill a week. Here are four tested itineraries with real timing, costs, and the honest trade-offs for each length of stay.
2 days: Island loop (Paliton sunset + Salagdoong cliff jumps + Cambugahay Falls) — ₱1,500–2,000 on a budget, ₱2,500–3,500 mid-range. 3 days: Add one full diving day (₱2,500–3,500) or cultural village exploration. 5 days: Full exploration including Apo Island day trip (₱3,500–4,500), two diving days, and all major beaches. 7 days: Deep immersion — Apo Island overnight, advanced diving certs, remote beaches, local hiking, and genuine downtime. Best season: November–May.
The 2-Day Essential: Island Loop & Beach Hopping
Perfect for a long weekend or travel-day recovery. You'll hit the three main beaches and the most famous waterfall. This works best if you rent a motorbike or book a private driver for ₱1,000–1,500 per day.
Day 1: Sunset Circuit
- Morning (8–10 AM): Arrive in Larena or Dumaguete. Rent a motorbike (₱350–500/day) or arrange a driver. Grab breakfast in Larena (₱100–150 for fried fish and rice).
- Late morning (10 AM–12 PM): Head to Cambugahay Falls. Entrance ₱50, rope swing ₱50. Spend 1.5–2 hours. This timing beats the tour groups.
- Lunch (12:30–1:30 PM): Return to Larena for fresh seafood. Budget ₱200–300 at a beachfront carinderias (warung-style eateries). Try grilled squid or tuna.
- Afternoon (2–4:30 PM): Visit Salagdoong Beach on the east coast. Entrance ₱50. Cliff jump from 5m, 8m, or 10m platforms (₱0 if you don't need a handler; hire one for ₱100–200 if nervous). Snorkel for 1 hour.
- Late afternoon (4:30–6:30 PM): Drive to Paliton Beach (south coast, 20 min from Salagdoong). Entrance ₱20. Watch the sunset from 5:30–6:30 PM. Water is calm but murky for swimming — come for the light and atmosphere.
- Dinner (7–8 PM): Eat in San Juan village (5 min from Paliton). Budget ₱250–400 for grilled fish with rice and fresh coconut juice.
On Day 1, start from Dumaguete (ferry from Cebu) rather than Larena. Dumaguete has better restaurants, more motorbike rentals, and gives you a full 10 AM start. Ferry is ₱328–580 (OceanJet) or ₱304–350 (Anika Star), 40–60 min. Arrive by 9 AM.
Day 2: Hidden Coves & Departure
- Morning (8–10 AM): Optional gentle activity. Explore San Juan Beach (free, calm, excellent infrastructure) for 1–2 hours. Or rest at your accommodation.
- Late morning (10 AM–12 PM): Visit a hidden cove on the west coast — try Paliton's northern arm or ask locals for Mag-Aso Falls (30 min hike from interior, ₱0, freshwater pools). Less touristy than Cambugahay.
- Lunch (12:30–1:30 PM): Last meal in Larena or Dumaguete. Budget ₱200–300.
- Afternoon (2 PM onward): Ferry back. OceanJet and Anika Star depart 3–6 PM daily.

| Accommodation (1 night) | ₱300–500 | ₱800–1,200 |
| Total | ₱2,856–3,556 | ₱3,706–4,510 |
The 3-Day Sweet Spot: Beaches, Falls & Choice
Three days is the ideal length for Siquijor. You get the 2-day essentials plus one full specialized day: either diving, cultural exploration, or advanced hiking.
Days 1–2: Island Loop (as above)
Day 3: Choose Your Adventure
Option A: Diving Intro Day (₱2,500–3,500)
- 6:30 AM: Meet dive operators (Sea Pearl Divers or Coco Grove Resort) at their beach shop. Bring your logbook if certified; bring 8 hours of rest if doing a trial lesson.
- 7–9 AM: Boat to a beginner dive site (Tubod Marine Sanctuary or Apo Island's easiest sites). Two dives, 8–30m depth, nudibranches and sea turtles guaranteed.
- 12–1 PM: Lunch on the boat or shore (included in most packages).
- Afternoon: Return by 3 PM. Rest and hydrate (air sickness rules: no flying for 12 hours post-dive). Casual dinner and early rest.
Cost: ₱2,500–3,500 for two dives (certified), ₱4,500–5,500 for discovery course + two dives (uncertified). Includes equipment and guide.
Option B: Cultural & Nature Day (₱0–500)
- Morning: Visit interior villages — ask your accommodation or locals for guided hikes to San Antonio de Padua (original Siquijor settlement, Spanish-era architecture, community farming). 3-hour walk, ₱0 entry.
- Midday: Visit a traditional healer's compound (ask locals for recommendations — many still practice albularyo or hilot massage). No charge to observe; donations welcome (₱100–200).
- Afternoon: Stop at Bandilaan Park (mountain retreat, 8 hectares, picnic grounds, ₱50 entrance) or find a local barangay fiesta if timing aligns.
- Evening: Cook or join a family dinner (ask your host if they'll teach you Filipino cooking for ₱300–500).
Cost: ₱50–500 depending on guide and meals.
Option C: Advanced Hiking Day (₱0–400)
- 6 AM: Early start for Mount Bandilaan (highest point, 600m, views of Cebu, Negros, Bohol). 4–5 hour round-trip with a local guide (₱200–300).
- 1–2 PM: Descend. Lunch in a mountain village.
- Afternoon: Rest and hydrate.
Cost: ₱200–400 for guide and meals.
Trying to fit Day 3 into a ferry slot too early.
Don't book a 1 PM ferry if diving. Post-dive rest is mandatory, and rush creates stress. Extend to Day 4 or choose a non-diving option.
The 5-Day Explorer: Full Immersion
Five days gives you time to dive twice, explore remote beaches, and still have downtime. This is the ideal length for serious relaxation + adventure mix.
Day 1: Arrival & Beach Acclimatization
- Ferry or flight arrival by 11 AM. Check in, light lunch, rest 2–3 hours for travel recovery.
- Late afternoon: Visit San Juan Beach (closest to main towns, calm, good for swimming and sunset). 1.5 hours.
- Dinner: Try local sisig (minced pork) or adobo at a carinderias.
Day 2: Waterfalls & West Coast
- Early morning: Cambugahay Falls (8–9 AM before tour groups). 2 hours.
- Midday: Drive west to explore hidden coves and local villages.
- Afternoon: Paliton Beach for sunset.
Day 3–4: Apo Island Day Trip + Extended Diving
- Day 3: Full-day Apo Island trip (₱3,500–4,500 including boat, two dives, lunch). Leave 7 AM from main beach, return by 5 PM. See 650+ fish species, sea turtles, shipwrecks at 35m. Bring underwater camera.
- Day 4: Recovery dive (one dive at a local site) or full rest day with snorkeling. Optional short hike or cultural village visit. Relax with a massage (₱300–500/hour).
Book Apo Island dive trip the day before with a dive operator. Operators: Sea Pearl Divers (Facebook: Sea Pearl Diving Siquijor), Coco Grove Resort, or Tiki Bar's affiliated guides. Prices vary ₱3,000–4,500 based on group size and certification level.
Day 5: Beaches & Departure
- Morning: Salagdoong Beach for cliff jumps and snorkeling.
- Lunch: Fresh grilled fish and mango juice.
- Afternoon: Ferry departure (typically 3–6 PM).
| Expense | Budget | Mid-Range |
|---|---|---|
| Ferry (round-trip) | ₱656–1,160 | ₱656–1,160 |
| Motorbike rental (5 days) | ₱1,750 | ₱2,500 |
| Diving (2 dives on Day 3 + 1 on Day 4) | ₱7,500 | ₱10,500 |
| Apo Island day trip (included above) | — | — |
| Meals (13 meals × ₱225) | ₱2,925 | ₱4,000 |
| Accommodation (4 nights) | ₱1,200–2,000 | ₱3,200–5,000 |
| Entrance fees & activities | ₱250 | ₱400 |
| Total | ₱14,281–18,335 | ₱21,256–31,560 |
The 7-Day Deep Dive: Full Siquijor Story
A full week lets you see Siquijor beyond the highlight reel. You can do advanced diving certs, stay at a remote beach resort, explore less-touristed parts of the island, and actually sleep.
Days 1–2: Arrival & Acclimatization (as 5-day plan)
Days 3–5: Diving Focus & Apo Overnight Option
- Day 3: One easy dive at Tubod Marine Sanctuary or Tulapos. ₱2,500–3,000. Learn the geography.
- Day 4: Apo Island full day with overnight (₱4,500–5,500 including boat, two dives, lunch, and basic accommodation on Apo). This is worth it for sunset and sunrise snorkeling. Return Day 5 morning.
- Day 5: Advanced certification course (PADI Advanced Open Water) if not yet certified. Three dives over the full day. ₱12,000–15,000. Includes breakfast, lunch, and all equipment.
Advanced cert is worth doing in Siquijor because (a) small groups, (b) safe warm water, (c) operators know every site intimately, (d) cost is lower than many other SE Asia destinations. Book at least 48 hours ahead with your operator.
Days 6–7: Remote Exploration & Departure
- Day 6: Motorbike to the north coast. Visit Cambugahay Falls again (swim, not rush). Explore Larena town center (fishing port, locals market, authentic Siquijor). Visit a local school or barangay office if interested in cultural immersion. Hike to Bandilaan Park for mountain views. Budget 1 hour + 2 hours exploring. Dinner with a family or at a local carinderias.
- Day 7: Lazy morning. Visit a massage place (₱300–500/hour) or sit on a quiet beach with coffee. Lunch. Afternoon ferry departure.
Packing too many dives into one day.
More than two dives per day increases nitrogen loading and decompression risk. Most safe operators cap 2 dives/day. If you want 5 dives in 5 days, spread them over Days 3–5 with rest days between.
Skipping the interior villages.
Tourists see only beaches and waterfalls. The real Siquijor — traditional healing, farming, family life — is inland. Spend at least one afternoon talking to locals or visiting a cultural site.
| Expense | Budget (DIY) | Comfort |
|---|---|---|

| Meals (19 meals × ₱225) | ₱4,275 | ₱6,000 |

Timing, Transport & Practical Tips
Best Times to Visit
Peak season (November–May): Dry, calm seas, perfect diving. November–February are coolest (22–26°C). March–May are hot (30–35°C) but still good. Book accommodations 4–6 weeks ahead. Ferry delays are rare but possible (typhoons, mechanical). Plan conservatively.
Green season (June–October): Fewer tourists, cheaper, lush landscapes. Rain is frequent but brief (afternoon showers). Seas choppier, some dive sites close. Good for experienced divers and budget travelers. Avoid diving August–September (worst conditions).
Ferry Timing Reality
- Dumaguete–Larena: OceanJet departs 6:30 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 4 PM, 6 PM. Anika Star: 6:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM, 5 PM. Duration 40–60 min. Prices ₱304–580 depending on class and time of booking.
- New option (as of Dec 2025): Sunlight Air flights Cebu–Siquijor, 4x weekly, 25 min, ₱2,000–3,500. Land at Sibulan Airport (10 min to Larena by tricycle, ₱100).
- Tagbilaran (Bohol)–Larena: 2–4 daily, 1 hour, ₱400–600. Slower but useful if coming from Bohol.
Motorbike Rental Realities
Automatic motorbikes (110cc) rent for ₱350–500/day in Larena and San Juan village. Manual bikes are cheaper (₱250–350) but less common. Helmets are required (laws enforced post-2024). An International Driving Permit is technically required; in practice, locals often don't ask, but carry it anyway. Roads are potholed in places — drive slowly (30–40 km/h) and avoid night riding.
One-way bike rentals across provinces (e.g., renting in Dumaguete, dropping in Larena) are not standard. Stick to local rentals. Bikes should have working brakes, lights, and mirrors before you accept them. Test drive for 5 min.
Meal Costs & Dining
- Carinderias (local warung): ₱75–150 for a rice plate + protein + veg. Open 6 AM–8 PM. Cash only.
- Tourist restaurants (Larena, San Juan): ₱200–400 for a main course. Accept card.
- Supermarket snacks: ₱50–100. 7-Eleven and SM hypermarket in Larena for packaged food.
- Fresh seafood (bring-your-own): Larena market, 6–10 AM, ₱150–300 for fresh fish. Ask a restaurant to cook it (₱100 fee).
Accommodation Tips for Each Length
- 2 days: One night in a hostel dorm (₱300–500) or budget hotel (₱600–800) in Larena or San Juan.
- 3 days: Two nights. Mix hostel + mid-range resort if you want a diving night included.
- 5–7 days: Book a mid-range beachfront resort (₱1,000–2,000/night) for base and comfort. Choose based on your focus: Apo Island ferries leave from Dumaguete, Larena, or San Juan — pick a base near your dive operator.
For Apo Island dives, stay near Dumaguete or take a ferry to Larena, then book a pickup from the dive operator. Don't commute daily — overnight on Apo is magical, and operators handle transport.
Activity Sequencing
A common mistake is overloading Days 1–2 with activities, leaving nothing for Days 4–5. Reverse this: Days 1–2 are light acclimatization, Days 3–4 are intensive (diving, Apo Island), Days 5+ are mixed (snorkel, explore, rest). Your body adjusts to travel and heat better this way.
Booking accommodation in Dumaguete instead of on the island.
Dumaguete is a transit hub, not a destination. Spend one night max (if arriving late), then move to Larena, San Juan, or your dive resort. You lose time commuting and miss the island's magic.
Planning a 5-day trip without at least 2 full days for diving or water sports.
Siquijor's appeal is water-based. If you're not diving, snorkeling, or cliff jumping, you'll finish sightseeing by Day 3. Commit to at least one water activity per day or extend to a 7-day trip with downtime.
Packing by Itinerary Length
- 2 days: Waterproof bag, swimwear (2), quick-dry shirt, water shoes, towel, sunscreen, cash, phone charger.
- 3–5 days: Add: casual clothes for dinners, light jacket (evening cooling), medications, underwater camera if diving.
- 7 days: Add: reef-safe sunscreen (reefs are fragile), insect repellent (dengue risk is real), hiking shoes, a good book or offline maps app.
All itineraries assume you're comfortable with motorbikes. If not, hire a driver (₱1,000–1,500/day) or book all-inclusive tour packages (₱3,000–5,000/day). Guides provide context and safety.
